A POMDO (pl. POMTA) figure represents an ancestor spirit. POMTA are discovered by Kissi farmers in their fields. Then they are taken to family shrines where they are hidden by various wrappings and placed in small vessels. The functions of these images include healing and punishment for the violation of oaths. The dates and original makers of such statuettes are not known.
