Credit LineGift of Prof. and Mrs. Alfred H. WhiteSubject matterLombard summered in Monhegan, Maine and developed much of his aesthetic and subject matter there. Monhegan was a well known artist colony that had existed since the mid-nineteenth century. This print was made during his time on the island. The bottom half of the tree in this work is far more detailed and darkly shaded than the upper portion. The resultant effect stylizes the natural light falling on the tree.
