Subject matter
Dosamantes was a Mexican graphic artist whose work was expressly anti-fascist and critical of the government. In 1932 he graduated from art school and started going on cultural missions. The trips would encourage him to become an advocate for rural farm laborers and other oppressed individuals. The exact identity of this women is not clear but he has captured her in this and at least one other print at Harvard. Dosamantes  was a founding artist of Taller de Gráfica Popular and the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana and from 1934 to 1938 he was a member of the Liga de Escritores y Artistas Revolucionarios.
