During the Northern Song and Jin dynasties (10th-13th centuries), high quality celadon wares were produced in northern China at the Yaozhou kilns, in modern Shaanxi province. Yaozhou ware bowls typically have delicately carved floral patterns on the interior of the bowl, and occasionally, as here, shallow incisions suggesting petals on the bowl exterior. The freehand design of the floral patterns on this bowl are especially lovely. This bowl was once broken, but has been repaired with gold.
