Subject matter
This work was created by Braque as an illustration for a book of poetry by Tristan Tzara, a compilation of his works entitled La Bonne Heure. Tzara was Romanian poet and artist active in France and one of the founders of Dada. Braque choose a theme common from his later works - still lifes and flowers, but the inky puddled shapes of the plant also nod to Tzara's random Dadaist style.

Physical Description
A flower emerges from several puddles of ink, which resemble the buds of other plants. Behind the foremost bud and the flower itself, a light blue shadow exists, mimicking the form of the surrounding plants.  The plant is surrounded by a black border below which are the artist's signature (right) and "Epreuve d'artiste" (left).
