The woman, closest to the viewer and shown in profile, is bending over and reaching behind to adjust her skirt. The man is standing with arms raised to adjust his collar before putting on his sportcoat.

A sketch study of a young man.  There are two rendtitions of the model; in the bottom-right is a frontal drawing of his head, right shoulder, and chest.  In the middle is a study of the man's face, hair and neck, he is angled towards the left, facing away from the artist.

A middle age man in a powdered wig is shown in a bust-length portrait against an undifferentiated blue background.  In addition to the wig, he is wearing a mauve silk coat, orange waistcoat, and ruffled white shirt.  His shoulders are in profile to the viewer, but the sitter turns his head and looks in the direction of the viewer.  The expression is one of great intelligence, wit and even humor.
