Landscape painting depicting trees with a solitary deer in the center of the canvas
Ralph Albert Blakelock
Deer in a Deep Woods
1862 – 1904
Gift of Gilbert M. Frimet
Landscape scene depicting trees silhouetted against a reddening sky with a dead fallen tree trunk lying diagonally across the foreground.
George Inness
Bequest of Margaret Watson Parker
This vertical print is created as if the viewer is in a dark, coniferous forest, looking out to a glare of light indication the sea and cove. The forest scene has three trees in the middle of the composition; a straight narrow tree lies in the middle, with a tree next to it leaning diagonally to the right, and a smaller tree in the background to the left. On either side of the composition are more trees. Behind the middle trees we can see the forest open up with a lighter space. The bottom third of the composition shows the forest floor, a faint path, and shadows cast by the trees.
Warren Lombard
The Way to Deadman's Cove
Gift of Prof. and Mrs. Alfred H. White
A nude man seen from behind raises a staff to ward off the blow of a standing female figure, also with a staff. The woman's swing is directed to two seated figures at the lower left: a nude woman and a satyr. In the distance is an elaborate gated city and landscape.
Albrecht Dürer
1493 – 1503
Gift of Jean Paul Slusser
