Subject matter
Throughout his career Hayter experimented with color, believeing in the relationship between color and emotions. By the early 1970s his work often featured fluorescents. In this piece lines that curve and roll like waves move diagonally across the print from the lower left corner to the upper right of the corner. Their flow is interrupted by ovals of varying shapes and bends. When the line crosses into an oval, the color shifts and the image appears to be twisted. Hayter made many prints and paintings that share similar optical illusions and colors.

This work was part of the Peace Portfolio I, which was organized and published by the Academic and Professional Action Commitee for a Responsible Congress in order to raise money for peace initiatives.
