An open cigar box with the lid showing. The open lid has six heads of figures, of them wearing tall hats and some with torsos. The text "Dutch Masters" is above their heads and behind them is more text that is made illegible by their heads. A row of cigars in the box is below the figures. Two in the middle have a decorative element. The front of the cigar box is visible and shows five figures' heads and torsos. To the right is the text again, "Dutch Masters." Both this piece and the oil on canvas version by the same title were created in 1963 so it is possible this one is a proof for the final edition.

A massive wood-carved headdress with stylized face (showing classic Yoruba features) of bulging eyes with defined upper lids, long, straight, triangular nose, symmetrical scarification patterns consisting of three horizontal lines on each cheek, and a short beard from ear to ear just underneath the lower lip. Two large “ears” protrude on either side of head and act as “scaffolding” for numerous attachments of symbolic content: birds and lions predominate, but also visible are amulets, wooden claws and beads, crosses, and an insignia shield of some kind. The ears terminate in two oblong mirrors with lions leaping off of each. Layers of pigment are visible, giving the impression that it has been repainted over time.

This bright, busy assemblage resembles Mexican folk art. Some elements within it are irridescent glass marbles, shards of glass, three owl figurines, a blue feather, part of a white china plate with a floral design, pieces of brightly colored Mexican terracotta pottery, and a broken W. Goebel "Barnyard Hero" figurine of a boy and duck. All are attached to a blue wooden board.
