Subject matter
This image shows a farmer who is studying the Constitution of Agriculture. A man who appears to be a farmer is standing in front of a poster while carrying a book in one hand and holding a farming spade in his other hand. The poster behind him has a large Chinese character in the center, meaning "grain" or "food." The book he is carrying contains a visible title: "The Eight-Point Charter of Agriculture." This charter was drawn in 1958 to improve agricultural production in China.The eight measures to increase production include soil improvement, fertilizer application, water conservancy, seed-strain improvement, close planting, plant protection, field management, and tool reform.
