Credit LineGift of Margaret and Howard BondSubject matterIn this photograph, the ruins of Khan Djoub-Youssouf nestle into the side of a shallow hill near the shore of the Sea of Galilee. The sea is almost imperceptible as such, as it appears to be merely a strip of blank space; directly above, an irregular sliver in a slightly darker tone indicates the hills on the opposite shore. Boulders and tall grass fill the immediate foreground. The faint silhouette of a herd of cattle suggests a nearby human settlement. This image is one of hundreds of photographs made throughout Bonfils' career which purport to document various landscapes, cityscapes, and people of the eastern Mediterranean.
Physical DescriptionA cluster of ruins nestles into shallow hills near the banks of a body of water.
