Subject matter
This work is the documentation sheet for a portfolio of lithographs created by Christo. The lithographs represent preparatory drawings and photographs for an unrealized project Christo had initially planned in 1968. For the project, Christo and Jeanne-Claude were going to wrap the MoMA as well as the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, install an inflatible sculpture in the Garden, and build a Wall of Oil Barrels on 53rd street. In the end, because the museum's insurance company would not continue to cover the museum while it was wrapped, the museum agreed to create an exhibition of the prepatory materials for the project entitled Christo Wraps the Museum: Scale Models, Photomontages, and Drawings for a Non-Event.
