Subject matter

Tsumugi is a type of soft fabric woven from raw silk, often worn for casual occasions.  The typical tsumugi types include Ooshima, Yuki, Shinozawa, Ueda, named after its area of production. Kasuri can either refer to the interwoven pattern in which kasuri fibers were used or the fibers themselves. Kasuri fibers are dyed specifically to create patterns when woven. Thus, Tsumugi garments that contain kasuri fibers may also be called a Kasuri garment. The inner lining includes eight different parts (hakkake) on the bottom and sleeve edges that gives the inner lining a more colorful appearance.
