Subject matter
In this photograph, a bright golden yellow sunset shines through a thin opening of clouds above the horizon at the center of the scene. Because the sun is nearly set, the lower third of the image is cased in darkness: dark browns and greens as well as fuzzy outlines of vegetation suggests what is ostensibly a grassy landscape. A small body of water in the center middleground, right below the horizon line, catches the light of the sun and gleams brilliantly. Rising dramatically above the horizon lines are low-lying cumulus clouds whose surfaces engender a play of differentiated textures and gradated tones of eggplant purple, occasionally interrupted by orange highlights.
