Subject matter
Fille Étendue belongs to the "Album de la Revue Blanche," a portfolio of prints by artists associated with La Revue Blanche, a periodical featuring art and literature. The album featured works of several members of the Nabis group, to which Ranson also belonged, and was published in Paris in 1895 by L'Estampe Originale. The Nabis group gathered at Ranson's studio for meetings. This print shows a girl lying down and reading, which diverges from Ranson's typical subject matter as he preferred symbolic imagery.
