Subject matter
Femme au Parapluie belongs to the "Album de la Revue Blanche," a portfolio of prints by artists associated with La Revue Blanche, a periodical of art and literature. The album features works of several members of the Nabis group, to which Bonnard also belonged, and was published in Paris in 1895 by L'Estampe Originale. During much of Bonnard's artistic career, black was a prominent color that frequently dressed his figures. He also designed the cover image for the album.
