Commander Collins furrows his eyebrows as he gazes to the left out of the picture plane. He sits in his naval uniform against a blank background. Here he poses for the photographer Mathew Brady, whose studio produced a large number of cartes-de-visite of noteworthy United States Army and Navy officers during the American Civil War (1861-1865).
