Subject matter
This print belongs to Copper Series, works based on the Stella's painting series of the same name from 1960-1961. To mimic the metallic quality of the paintings, Stella created these prints by combining techniques of screenprinting and lithography.  He first screenprinted the entire sheet of paper, and then applied lithographic inks and varnishes over this. The titles of the works in this series, including Pagosa Springs, reference towns in Coloarado in the San Juan Mountain region which were known for their copper and silver mines.

This print shows a shape like the letter H, although wider than normal. It is made of regularly spaced copper color and white stripes. It is printed on special Arjomari paper.
