Subject matter
Maeda Masao was a member of the Creative Print (sôsaku hanga) movement, a group of artists dedicated to bringing individualism, experimentation, and autonomy to Japan’s centuries old ukiyo-e tradition. Landscape was a major subject of his prints. This work is one of fifteen prints that become the set titled "Recollections of Tokyo," published by Fugaku Shuppansha in 1945.
