Credit LineGift of Dr. James HayesSubject matterIwai Shijaku I was also known as Iwai Hanshiro VII. He was the oldest son of Iwai Hanshirō V. He was born in 1804 and active from 1806 until his death in 1845. He spent time acting in Edo as well as Osaka.
Physical DescriptionIn this print, a woman carries a large box on her back. In her right hand, she has an unsheathed sword raised above her. Behind her is a flowering tree against a night sky. A cartouche at the top right hase faded markings in it.
