A sweeping winter river scene opens up from the foreground and sweeps away towards the left. Ice floes dot the river surface and snowy hills frame trees that stand along the riverbank in the middle distance. The palette of this painting is restricted to mauves, blues, greens, and whites.

Handscroll depicting figures (42 men and 6 boys) in a landscape, most of whom are sitting along the banks of a stream as cups on lotus leaves float by. A small cluster of figures sits in a shelter over the water examining a handscroll. The painting includes an inscription, six artist’s seals and one collector’s seal.

A great, claw-shaped wave which almost swampes the boats dominates the scene, . The Mount Fuji appears in the distance and seems much smaller compared to the waves. In the upper left-hand corner, the artist inscribed the title of the work along with his signature.
