UMMA Chinese funerary objects

This stoneware figure of an anthropomorphic form consists of a lion-like body and paws, wings, human face with beard, and central flame-like horns and spikes extending down the back. The figure is covered in a straw-colored or light greenish-brown glaze.

A buff stoneware jar rising up from a tall foot ring in an elongated globular body with lobes tapering towards the mouth. This jar has incised decoration, and five tubes evenly spaced and protruding upwards from the shoulder. The mouth is covered with a high domed lid, incised, and topped with a lotus bud finial. The jar is covered in an olive green celadon glaze.

A flat bottomed, red earthenware bowl with rounded sides and everted rolled rim.  It is covered in green lead glaze, with iridescence and calcification.

An earthenware female figure with three-color polychrome glazes, wearing a green tunic over a long amber skirt, green trousers and boots on a platform, carrying a round box, her hair pulled up in a top-knot and her face painted with polychrome mineral pigments.

An earthenware miniature standing screen, mimicking wooden construction, with two vertical support beams and three cross beams on a platform with support brackets at the base.  There are finials at the top on both sides, and it is glazed in green and amber.

This earthenware sancai-glazed figure of a male attendant is standing on an octagonal cream and green dais, wearing a long green tunic over an amber-colored underrobe, with amber and green sleeves, carrying an amber-glazed bowl. His hair, hat and face are painted with polychrome mineral pigments, and his tall hat painted to match his garments in an orange-amber color. The head has been sculpted and painted separately from the body.

An earthenware, green glazed sedan chair, square with four sides and a hipped roof. It has gold pointed finial, amber latice windows on the right and left, and an open front with a chair. Two poles run horizontally through the sedan chair for carrying by five male attendants (2008/2.276).

A shallow basin with a flat bottom and gently curved sides, a slightly inverted direct rim, and a single duck shaped spoon, seperate but meant to be placed in the center of the base.  It is covered in a gray-green celadon glaze.

This red earthenware head on a thin neck has a petite nose, mouth, and eyes with soft, full cheeks. The figure's hair is pulled up on top of its head, above its two ears. Traces of polychrome pigment remain, showing that the eyes were once painted in detail.

A red earthenware, small, flat-bottomed pot with narrow base and wide bulbous neck with three protrusions at the rim, a large circular hole pierced into the side of the lower body, covered in a green lead glaze with iridescence and calcification.

A tall porcelain vase with an ovoid lower body, a tall narrow neck, and a dish shaped mouth on a footring. The neck has several applied figures of molded immortals and sculpted cosmological creatures, including cranes, clouds, deer, and a dragon chasing a protruding flaming pearl. It is topped with a cone shaped lid with wide flange, topped with a crane-shaped finial. There are four loop lugs on both the lid and around the mouth. It is covered in a white glaze with a bluish green tinge. This jar is one of a pair with <em>1993/1.81.</em>
