Subject matter
Daubigny had a boat-studio and travelled down France's rivers to paint and draw scenic works. As a result, many of his landscapes, such as this, depict river and riverbank scenes.

Physical Description
This horizontal landscape includes a river straight across the foreground, parallel to the bottom edge of the image. In the center beyond the water are buildings, on either side are trees, and in the distance on the right is a windmill.
