Credit LineGift of Prof. and Mrs. Alfred H. WhiteSubject matterThe Tavern of Seven Trees - River Marne shows the river bank of the Parisian river Marne. The water is calm and one figure sits on the bank with a book while a small child considers bathing. Gleeson was an American etcher that often depicted scenes of people and their environments. He spent a few years traveling in Paris, France, and possibly London, England, around 1910-1913 judging by the shift in subject matter for his etchings during this period.
Physical DescriptionThis is a scene of a riverbank. The water is calm, bathing children appear on the grass on the bank, on the right side of the image. In the center of the print there is a large cluster of trees. Buildings are visible in the background on either side of the cluster of trees.
