Credit LineMuseum PurchaseSubject matterCollage appears to be a precariously perched tower of blocks with a strong structural element to it, which is fitting given Adams's background as a sculptor. The piece is one of at least two pieces that the artist produced in 1953 with the same title and similar motifs. They were created in the midst of the artist's involvement in the Constructivist movement.
Physical DescriptionThis collage consists of geometric shapes, primarily rectangles in various sizes stacked on top of one another to form a tower. The shapes are all black set against a solid brown background. The tower rests on two thin prongs. Shapes are repeated but there is no symmetry in the piece.
