Artist(s)Warren LombardArtist NationalityAmerican (North American)Object Creation Date1918-1919Medium & Supportpen and inkDimensions 6 in. x 8 in. ( 15.2 cm x 20.3 cm )
Credit LineGift of Prof. and Mrs. Alfred H. WhiteSubject matterLombard summered in Monhegan, Maine and developed much of his aesthetic and subject matter there. Monhegan was a well known artist colony that had existed since the mid-nineteenth century. Lombard indicates that it is later in the day by darkly shading the hills and focusing on the light on the water. In other images Lombard gives more attention to the texture of grasses and leaves. Here, Lombard plays with value to indicate the effect of light on the water.
