Wooden mask in the form of a stylized human face. Large, round eyes sit below a prominent forehead. The ears are small semi-circles on each side of the head and the mouth is open to reaveal teeth. Human hair and natural fibers form the mask's headdress and beard.

A trapezoid base with 56 lengths of metal strings divided into 14 sets. Each set is wound around the pegs on each end. The inside cover is lined with paper and an x-shaped paper bracket is attached which holds the striking stick. The striker is a thin, carved bamboo stick.<br /> <br /> With a name that literally means &ldquo;Western zither,&rdquo; this melodic percussion instrument produces a clear metallic sound when its metal strings are struck with a thinly carved bamboo stick. Strung over its trapezoid base board are fifty-six lengths of wire divided into fourteen sets, so that each set comprises four lengths of wire wound around the pegs on the left and right sides. The inside of the cover is lined with paper; the same paper has been used to create an X-shaped bracket to hold the stick. The fact that this is not Korean traditional paper suggests that the yanggeum is imported. Pastoral poet Tao Yuanming (372–427) and a boy-servant bearing chrysanthemums on his back are shown. Two pine trees dominate the composition. Tao Yuanming’s forward gaze and slightly hunched posture exhibit his full inner exhilaration when chrysanthemums were collected. The subtle smile on the poet’s face seems also to reflect a moment of transcendence.<br /> Has signature and seal of the artist

Wooden mask in the shape of human head, covered with animal skin, possibly antelope. The head is ovoid shaped with a small nose and an open mouth filled with teeth. The ears are small and there is a dark line running from the top of the forehead to the bottom of the nose. There are two raised marks on each side of the face. The top of the head is darkened and has small, wooden pegs to represent hair.
