The subjects conform to a type, with similar body structure, hair style and hair color. The red velvet of their dresses, one with a navy overcoat, contrasts against the deep blue hues of the background.

This work is a color photograph of three women in satin night wear reclining on two adjacent mattresses, which are fitted with satin sheets. The photo plane is divided by a door frame, so that the viewer can see into two living spaces. The door frame cuts through the center of the image, which would have been at the centerfold, a formal device frequently employed in Bourdin's work.

One woman stands in the center background, while two models stand on the far sides of the frame, their shadows elongating toward the ceiling. Each looks at, and seems to move toward the center, where an illuminated conch shell glows on a table.
