Ships at anchor in a lagoon is the focus of this image. Smaller boats are tied to the quay in the foreground and along the horizon line is a cityscape, leading to a large church at the left, with an impressive facade, dome, and bell tower behind. A large ship is moored between the viewer and the church. Much of the foreground is occupied by water without boats, leaving the elements of the composition largely in the middle distance.

This is a black and white photograph depicting two sides of a rural road running through the upper portion of the work. In the foreground, where the viewer stands, is a grassy hillside that slopes downward toward the road. There are some small skinny trees, large boulders and rocks. In the background there are low lying buildings, telephone poles and rows of cultivated trees.

The painting is divided into two panels. The lower panel depicts the Raja with six females in the courtyard of a palace. The Raja stands with a sword and shield. The palace is decorated colorfully, which contrasts with the upper panel which is monochromatic blue. The upper panel depicts a procession scene, which includes figures on horses and an elephant as well as a shrine.

Seen from the water's edge, a canal in the foreground curves to the right and back into space. In the ditant view, buildings with balconies and chimney pots are visible as well as a bridge that is cropped by the curve of the waterway. In the foreground, across the canal, are several arched entryways. A dark waterdoor is open and shows a man on the steps and two shadowy figures behind him framed in the doorway; a lantern hangs overhead. To the right, another arched doorway with a metal grille above faces the canal, but is closed. A small open window on the seond floor can be seen between the arched doors.
