Subject matterAs part of a portfolio created by the women-led studio "Tiger Lily Press," Young's work shows the innovative printmaking techniques highlighted in this portfolio. The second group edition, produced at the 4th Street studio of the Press in Cinncinati, was titled "IMAGES" and was a compilation by six artists who self-published, packaged, and distributed the edition to various museum collections, including UMMA. The other artists included in the porfolio were Joan Effertz, Charles Grund, April Foster, Mary Mark, and Philippe LeJeune.
Young's use of collagraphy allowed her more flexiblity in the print media than with more traditional techniques. A common subject matter, Young often depicted and sought inspiration from the natural landscape.
Physical DescriptionThis print has an image of a plant with three large petals in black with white lines. The plant has a dark blue stem which reaches the bottom of the image. In the background, there are colored strips in tan, blue, pink, maroon and black. In the blue band, there are patterned variations in a lighter tone. The plant also has its own embossed marks. The print is titled (l.l.) "Ocean View" signed (l.r.) "Barbara Young imp" and numbered (l.c.) "7/20" in white.
