Credit LineMuseum PurchaseSubject matterAtget labeled this courtyard scene with some specificity "the former house of the Master of St. Eustache," giving the address as 25 Rue du Jour in the 1st arrondisement of Paris. Despite this wealth of information, the subject itself remains ambiguous. A large wagon is parked in the middle of a doorway, no user in sight, while the door at the far end of the passage is intriguingly ajar. This is one of several photographs that Atget took of this particular site; another version is more closely focused on the doorway on the right, this time without the wagon present.
Physical DescriptionInterior courtyard with a large wagon parked in a doorway.
