Subject matter
This photograph was created in the midst of a Christian procession in Brazil. Held at a lower angle looking up, the camera depicts a close up view of two men bearing ornate processional objects. The men’s faces are in shadow, their heads silhouetted against the gray sky. The man closest to the camera holds a metallic staff that appears to have an ornate lantern mounted on its top. The man at his side holds a staff with an opulently gilded cross at its top. In the lower right corner there can be seen other people involved in the procession, as well as the fronds of a palm tree.
