Credit LineGift from the Collection of David S. Rosen MD, MPHSubject matterModica photographed the life of Barbara, a young girl from a rural, impoverished area in upstate New York from 1986 until 2001, when Barbara passed away. A collaboration between Modica and Barbara, many of the photographs are staged, creating open ended narratives that have a dreamlike quality. The empathetic and unsentimental images are of Barbara's life and that of her family. This photograph depicts a young girl daydreaming on an unmade bed in a room that is at once derelict and also full of wonder.
Physical DescriptionThis photograph shows a young girl lying on a bed by a bright window. Her left hand is outstretched while her right holds a section of hair to the light.
