TitleMonhegan Sketches: Landscape with Trees and Water
Artist(s)Warren LombardArtist NationalityAmerican (North American)Object Creation Date1918Medium & Supportpen and inkDimensions 6 in. x 8 1/16 in. ( 15.3 cm x 20.4 cm )
Credit LineGift of Prof. and Mrs. Alfred H. WhiteSubject matterLombard summered in Monhegan, Maine and developed much of his aesthetic and subject matter there. Monhegan was a well known artist colony that had existed since the mid-nineteenth century. The contrast of the darkly shaded trees with the sparse definition of water suggests ambiguity and an infinite expanse of space beyond the frame.
